Last month my parents went on a bus trip to AC. While eating at the requisite buffet, my mother heard her name announced on the PA system that she had won $1,000 and had 15 minutes to get to the promotions booth to claim her prize. Sounds good, huh? But my mother has has three hip replacements and back surgery and doesn't move very fast.
So, she starts making her way to claim her prize and when she gets to the casino floor from the restaurant, she realizes that there is no way she'll make it in time. Thinking quickly on her feet, she stops at the nearest game table, explains to the dealer that she is has won a prize but because she is handicapped, she can't make the time deadline and asks if he can do anything to help her. He graciously calls the desk, explains her situation and gives her the good news - they will hold her prize until she gets there.
Of course, because this is AC, and the casino wants to make money, she is given $1,000 credit on her casino comp card to play in the machines. As she began to play with her card, another player gave her some good advice - when you win, cash out your winnings so you can get some money out of using the card instead of putting your winnings credits back into the machine. She and my father used about half of her winnings that afternoon and walked away with about two hundred dollars from using the card.
With only a month to use up the credits, I was invited to join them to use up the balance. So off we went this morning for a day of gambling - and we walked away with over $300 and didn't use any of our own money. And my mother split the winnings with my dad and I, so now I have a little money to put away for my trip to Alaska. Woo-hoo! Thanks Mom and Dad!!
