Long time, no post

Can't believe that it's been well over a month since my last post.  What have I been doing you ask?

My mom, who was the subject of my last post has kept me busy.  A week after her birthday, she was hospitalized with congestive heart failure.  Yep, and the day before that, she was in Atlantic City making her contribution to the casino owners bottom line.

Long story short, she had had a small issue with her kidney function after a cortisone injection for a back problem.  Being diabetic, having high blood pressure and 83, this may not have been the best, option.  But it was about the only one left.  And while it did help the pain, it didn't help her kidneys.

After blood work, a kidney ultrasound and consulting with a nephrologist, she was on the mend.  Until two days after her visit to the nephrologist when she came down with a UTI.  And the doctor in for her regular doctor gave her the wrong antibiotic - one not for people with kidney issues.  And the fun began.

The antibiotic affected her kidney function to the point where fluid built up and she went into congestive heart failure.  With a side of pneumonia and extreme anemia.  Yes, my mother had found the "Perfect Storm" of health issues.  And it almost took and act of congress for her to agree that she was sick enough to go to the hospital.  That and the fact that she couldn't breathe.

Five days in the hospital, and treatment by her primary doctor, a hematologist, nephrologist, pulmonologist and cardiologist she was much better and was able to go home.

I've been spending as much time as I can helping her and my dad out and blogging has not been a priority.

But now she's up to a trip.  Back to Atlantic City.  So hopefully, tomorrow my parents will come to my house and on Monday we'll take a drive to AC for a little recreational slots and some lunch and then home.  Looking forward to spending some fun time with my parents.
