Summer 2012 - the lost months

It's the last day of August and I feel like I missed summer.  Probably because, for the most part, I did.

What can I say about summer 2012.  Painting.  Cleaning.  More painting.  Still more cleaning.  Ugh.

A few years ago, my husband and I purchased an investment with another couple.  We had tenants for almost four years and this year they moved.  So, while the house was vacant, we decided to do some work on the house before we got new tenants.  This meant installing new flooring, painting, fixing the main bathroom and general cleaning.

We started working on the house shortly after our tenants moved.  Little by little we painted and then summer came and we backed off a bit - we weren't in a hurry as we didn't have a new tenant lined up.  Then, suddenly, we had a tenant and we had to hike it into high gear and get finished.  The painting got finished, the flooring was finished and the bathroom was sporting a new tub and surround.  And then our partners went on vacation.  And my husband's work got busy and the cleaning up was left to me.  So for eight straight days, I dusted walls, vacuumed and mopped floors, cleaned windows, hung new blinds, and scrubbed the kitchen.  My husband helped on the weekend and soon it was ready for new tenants.  And I was ready for a rest home!

Our new tenants are in and like the last time I did a lot of painting and climbing ladders, I'm probably going to need surgery on my knee.  Lucky me!  I knew it was coming even before we started working on the rental house and I'll know for sure when I go back to the orthopedic doc in two weeks.

So, tomorrow September begins.  We'll take some time off to enjoy ourselves and then fall begins.  And so does the housecleaning on my own house.  That is, if my knee holds out!

Now I feel really bad. Can I come over and help you clean (after I do my chores here)?

No, you may not. Do not feel bad. Do not go to jail. Do pass go and collect $200.

This was not posted to make you feel bad. To make John feel bad? Now that's a different story!

OH boy! Let me know the knee surgery plans and I'll bring up some soup and bread for you. (I have a low sugar whole-wheat bread that is pretty diabetic-friendly)
