Remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice

It's Memorial Day. A day to remember those who served and gave their lives for our freedom and the freedom of others.

Both my father and my late father-in-law served during World War II. My father in the Army and my father-in-law in the Navy. And while they served and came home, so many did not. And to them and their families, I say "thank you."

I have been fortunate enough to visit the Arizona Memorial in Hawaii and have been to Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and World War II Memorial in Washington DC and I can honestly say that I have shed tears at every one. Tears of sadness that war exists, tears of sadness for those who died and tears of sadness for those families who have lost their loved ones. And tears of thanks that my family members and friends who served came back alive.

God Bless America.
